The Captain - Drew BayWhile growing up a wannabe author or sports journalist- and often being praised on what a strong writing ability I had- it seemed that being employed in a writing-related discipline was going to be my calling.

I figured after graduating from high school that I wanted to learn more about psychology; I always wondered why people did what they did and why they thought and acted in certain ways— even more so when it seemed completely at odds with what I or a “rational” person would seemingly do!

As it turns out, I didn’t become an author, sports journalist, or psychologist (despite being an avid reader and writer, long-suffering Vancouver Canucks fan, and perpetual student of the way people think).

I was immediately turned on to writing of a different kind- sales copywriting- after my dad passed on a book from the legendary copywriter Dan Kennedy. I pored over the book’s contents and lapped up the fascinating insights and tips on how to stand out from the herd by writing marketing material that would actually entice your customers to want to do business with you.

After graduating with my BBA in Marketing from Simon Fraser University, I had picked up a good amount of knowledge (on my own time) I would need to ‘make it big’ in writing emotional, direct-response copy. I enjoyed the different style and unique way that I could make my writing stand head and shoulders above the rest, with the potential of that leading to more money for whomever I wrote for.

The whole time I often wondered why so-called marketers or experts would write an ad in a certain way- thinking, “I know I could write that better,” and more often “why would THAT make anyone want to buy from that company?”

This was the fuel I needed to establish my own copywriting consultancy. Seeing how poorly executed and written so many ads and marketing collateral were out there, I wanted to make a positive difference in business owners’ lives. I refuse to let their business unknowingly suffer with marketing and sales material that was simply a waste of their time and money.

It’s not the business owner’s fault that they don’t know how to properly construct a sales message- with irresistible appeal, offer, USP, and the myriad other elements that constitute a truly GREAT marketing piece. It’s especially a grave injustice when they entrust their business’s success and their own hopes and dreams on copywriting that doesn’t produce results.

It’s my personal mission to do away with the cute, the silly, and the 100% ineffectual advertising that unfortunately permeates our computer screens, inboxes, and mailboxes. I set out to answer my own question (and yours) by making the following question obsolete: “why would THAT make anyone want to buy from that company?”

This is what drives me. It drives me to succeed for you and your business. I don’t want to sit idly by and allow your wallet to be taken advantage of- thinking the ‘creative’ writing you’re given is going to somehow influence your prospects to pick up the phone and call you.

It’s with the combination of that marketing background, direct-response copywriting learning and practice, and application of human psychology that Captain Copy is different from the rest. It makes me what I set out to be; a difference maker in my clients’ lives.

I won’t let you sail the stormy seas of business alone. Every ship needs a Captain.

To Your Success,

Drew Bay
