Nothing Is Bought Before It’s Sold.
This is a fact of business and life… without a tangible, clear offering, your marketing is pretty much useless.
Without providing a rock-solid, meaningful reason for your prospects to do business with you, they will gladly spend their money with someone else that offers the same product or service… and may provide an inferior one at that!
Without a plain-and-simple, specific call to action in your advertising, your prospects will ALSO spend their money elsewhere.
It’s a simple concept— but it’s not always simply (and more important, effectively) applied to your business’s marketing.
Sift through your ‘junk mail’ at home after you visit the mailbox. You’ll find a treasure trove of poorly executed advertising that not only falls short of generating awareness and inducing your EXACT target audience to buy, but also provides you no chance to track the return on those ad dollars that were unknowingly frittered away.
Yellow pages, TV, newspaper, and internet ads alike all share this common problem of insignificance. All would benefit from an infusion of emotional, direct-response copy to grab the reader’s attention and impel them to act on the message that resonated with them.
Here Is Where Captain Copy Will Help
With the right approach to introducing your product or service to the exact target audiences that would be willing and able to purchase from you—combined with the art of persuasion in the words— you can make your marketing irresistible to the reader.
All buying decisions are made on the words we use; whether in-person, on the phone, or in print both on and offline.
Isn’t it true? Have you ever purchased something because of the slick graphics or layout of an ad, brochure, website, or direct mail piece? Have you purchased because something “looked nice” or caught your eye?
This is a revealing human truth that any business owner is CRAZY to ignore:
People buy things based on emotion
This psychological fact is paramount to capitalizing on your opportunity to justify, satisfy, or repel these emotions with your business’s offerings…
And strong copy in your marketing collateral is the vehicle with which you WILL capitalize.
Logic may reinforce the prospect’s choice, but in the end, your reader’s emotions are what drive him or her to decide one way or another on who they want to do business with.
There are many examples of this kind of behaviour in our everyday lives, but one of the better ones is the purchase of exotic sports cars…
The guy who buys the Ferrari is buying because of the status, the feeling of being “cool” or simply the sex appeal the car may command. He could get MUCH better fuel economy, room for his family, trunk space, durability, lower maintenance and insurance costs– all while getting him as efficiently from A to B as a Honda Civic would—but he spends 10 times the amount for a vehicle that cannot provide those logical benefits.
He bought it for the feelings it gave him– for the rush of testosterone, adrenaline, the feeling of being exclusive and viewed as “successful”— clearly not for economical or “rational consumer” reasons.
These are the kinds of emotions, the kinds of feelings you MUST conjure up in your prospects in order to make them want to do business with you! And you won’t be able to do this meaningfully without strong copy—without a strong message and “written conversation” that your prospect is having in his or her head while reading your sales message.
When you combine the right emotionally-charged messages with communications that are highly targeted to 100% qualified prospects—those people and businesses that are willing and able to do business with you—your chances of success shoot up exponentially.
